Metallurgical coke is a carbon material manufactured by the destructive distillation of various blends of bituminous coal. It is a macroporous carbon material of high strength produced by carbonization of coals or coal blends at temperatures up to 1200°C. Metallurgical coke is used as a fuel and as a reducing agent in smelting iron ore in a blast furnace.
